High Anxiety

Extreme anxiety can result from peering out at the world around you and sensing that something is terribly wrong even when it all looks just dandy on the surface. I'm talking about the existential queasiness that is induced by deja vu or certain optical illusions. Or even when you're told that the economy is booming, jobs go begging, productivity is up, and Wall Street is vibrant with evanescent gold - and yet you know that you aren't making a dime more than you did five years ago, gas prices are killing you, you can't even sell your house, and your very survival appears to teeter on a precipice.
